Hundreds of people have been confirmed with salmonella poisoning from contaminated bean sprouts and health officials are warning the public to avoid eating them. It's been a while but I have sprouted my own beans. It's not that difficult and provided you have a clean water source and the beans are food grade it should be cheaper and healthier than buying them. Couple of links here and here on how it's done.
