Tuff Stuff - Conservative Women

McGuinty Liberals were shut out in provincial by elections yesterday. I've not met Lisa MacLeod face to face, but from people who have worked with her, it's evident that she is a true political animal with more than enough backroom smarts to get things done. I have met Christine Elliott several times and she is clever and gracious and exactly the kind of woman we need in politics.

Nepean voters true to blue
Lisa MacLeod cruised to an easy byelection victory last night in Nepean-Carleton, keeping the riding blue for at least another 18 months.

Taking a commanding lead early and never looking back, MacLeod captured more than 57% of the vote, beating her nearest competitor -- Liberal Brian Ford -- by more than 7,500 votes.

Christine Elliott wins narrow victory in Whitby Ajax
Voters in Whitby-Ajax elected the wife of their former provincial representative last night, giving Progressive Conservative Christine Elliott a narrow victory over a high-profile local Liberal candidate.

The PCs took the sprawling suburban riding by just over 1,000 votes, polling 46% of the vote to beat a surprisingly strong Liberal showing of 42%. The NDP trailed with 9.8% of voter support.

Tabuns wins tight race against Chin in Danforth

The New Democrats squeaked to victory against a star Liberal candidate in Toronto-Danforth last night, in one of three provincial by-elections that left the governing Liberals without a bolstered majority in the Ontario Legislature.
